Nearly 18 years ago my son was born was an undiagnosed unilateral cleft lip and palate that wasn't detected on any pregnancy scans and at the time I knew nothing about it.
Then in 2016 I started drawing comic during the May Cleft Awareness Weeks to tell our story as parents of a child with a cleft facing the dread bone graft surgery.
When Covid hit and I was furloughed from my IT day job I decided I would collect all the comics and compile them into a coherent story tell the full story from when he was born until the time he started to be dealt with by adult services as a guide to other parents following in our footsteps. It ended up taking more time than I expected until finally for the 2026 Cleft Awareness Week I have not only a completed comic but excitedly some physical copies also.
