Mrs Noah
Looking through an old notepad of gag ideas I came across this caption and drew this Noah cartoon which shares a few themes with this 4th July post.

Singles Cruise
Having missed the chance to do a Valentine's cartoon I have drawn up an old idea about being single when everyone else is coupled-up which pretty much summed up Valentine's as a single person.

Belshazzar's Facebook
Dear Facebook, what have you done with my wall? I know I complained Facebook was liked a classroom of preschool children all shouting out at once, but your rushed out computer AI attempt to work out what I really want to read and label it 'Top Story' is a mess!!! You've also given me fifteen billion ways to tailor this and make it more complicated as well as making writing a new wall post require a PhD in IT.
Belshazzar, King of the Babylonians would have no chance reading anything on his wall if you lot were in charge in the 6th century BC (read Daniel 6 for the full story).

Cain, Abel and Vegetarianism
Adam and Eve / Noah are all cartoon regulars so I thought I'd bring some less well know Genesis characters to this week's CCGB compedition whose theme is 'Vegetarianism'.
Okay it's a stretch given the story in Genesis 4 only says Cain was a farmer and Abel was a hunter. Also as all the commentaries will say it's not really about divine disapproval of vegetarian vs meats but rather the attitude behind the offerings. Yes and Cain did murder Abel but that's another story.

IPad 2 and the Commandments
Apple's iPad2 was unveiled tonight/today in San Francisco like the Second Coming for geeks. After days of hype saying it would be thinner, lighter, faster and make the user ten times smarter/attractive it turns out the iPad is thinner, lighter, faster and has a camera on both sides.
Of course the obvious gag here is the Moses Tablet vs Apple Tablet. Read your Bible or Wikipedia and you will see there was two sets of tablets the first one Moses smashed when he discovered the Israelites had got tired of waiting and had built themselves a Golden Calf/Android replacement. The second version wasn't smashed and was kept with the first set in the Ark of the Covenant. Had Apple designed the second tablet it would have been thinner, lighter with room for only 8 commandments. Apple would have insisted on keeping the commandments 'You Shalt Not Steal Music' and 'You will have no other Apps but Apples'. Then again we all know that Apple is not some sort of cult or religion whose devotees slavishly buy every new gadget they make.

Solomon's Speed Date Night
Second Valentines/Bible cartoon where we address the question of what polygamists do on Valentines Day. As often is the case I'm not that interested in the answer just the comic potential of what King Solomon who had many wives (mostly foreign) would do with his great wisdom.
The invention of Speed Dating was credited to a Rabbi who wanted Jewish singles to meet as many new people as possible. I don't know who invented Date Night but my friends seem to think it's an American idea whenever my wife and I declare on Facebook we are abandoning our offspring to go out together for Date Night. However I'm pretty sure I invented Speed Date Night the way for polygamists to spend a bit of quality time with their many wives on occasions like Valentines night.
Footnote: Just in case any biblical/historical scholars take issue with my cartoon I drew the wives with veils so they would look the same. I'm fairly confident the custom of the time was for woman to wear veils except with their husband but then again they didn't have restaurants with table cloths (although I could be wrong on that count too)

Eden Cards - Adam's Dilemma
One week to go until Valentine's day and this cartoon reminds us of the perils of picking Valentines cards for your beloved from a range of pre-packaged sentiments. I like the idea that Adam having chosen the names of all the animals would struggle to pick a Valentines card for Eve.
